10FPS CONTINUOUS SHOOTING
The EOS 7D Mark II inspires confidence, shooting up to 10 full 20.2 Megapixel resolution photos in a single second, recording images as RAW, JPEG or both at the same time. Infinite JPEG or 31 RAW files can be captured at 10 fps without any loss in performance (when using a UDMA 7 card), and the shooting rate can be customised to suit the pace of the subject being photographed whilst being recorded to dual CF and SD card slots.
GROUNDBREAKING AUTOFOCUS TRACKING WITH ITR
The EOS 7D Mark II’s iTR (Intelligent Tracking and Recognition) AF focusing system uses colour and face information to recognise and track subjects as they move around the frame and selects the correct focus point based on this information. Because the metering sensor can detect both colours and faces within the scene, it is able to provide this information to the AF microcomputer, thereby tracking subjects by using more than just contrast change information. AF responsiveness can be customised using a simple tool that adjusts the focus tracking according to the shooting environment and subject, so that other objects passing momentarily in front of the subject don’t interfere with focusing.
For maintaining pin-sharp focus while you shoot, the EOS 7D Mark II has 65 focus points to track and lock on to fast moving subjects. Each focus point is a ‘cross-type’2 meaning it can lock on to both horizontal and vertical detail quickly and accurately. To assist shooting in extreme low light conditions the EOS 7D Mark II can focus with its centre point even under moonlight conditions where light levels can be as low as -3EV.
RAPID IMAGE PROCESSING
Responsive and powerful image processing comes courtesy of two “DIGIC 6” processors. Together these processors govern every aspect of the camera’s behaviour, from autofocus and exposure metering to the processing of sensor data into high-quality stills and movies.
The extra processing power of the “DIGIC 6” processors allows data to be captured and processed faster than ever before. It enables the EOS 7D Mark II to capture full resolution RAW and JPEG images continuously at 10fps for a sustained burst speed including 31 RAWs with UDMA 7 class cards or an infinite number of JPEGs.
The “DIGIC 6” processors also facilitate quick camera response and high speed AF to deliver a performance that is perfect for capturing split-second action.
FULL HD MOVIES WITH SLOW MOTION CAPTURE
The EOS 7D Mark II is the most advanced APS-C DSLR yet for the creative videographer. Movie functions include Full HD (1080p) capture at variable frame rates from 24 up to 50 or 60fps – ideal for fast moving action or slow-motion footage that looks silky smooth, revealing the subtleties of motion on camera. At 30fps, Dual Pixel CMOS AF provides full-time autofocus, especially useful for tracking moving subjects.
The HDMI output on the EOS 7D Mark II allows recording of 1920x1080 footage in uncompressed YCbCr 4:2:2, 8-bit, to external recorders to suit different workflows. A further added advantage is that movies can now be recorded as .MP4 files – a widely compatible format for playback with a small recording size suitable for smart phones and social media.
With a headphone as well as a microphone socket clear audio can be monitored and captured that is as sharp as the visual output.
TIMER SHOOTING FUNCTIONS
An in-built interval timer allows images to be recorded over pre-programmed periods of time – a great way to record a slowly changing scene and create time-lapse movies. For extreme long-exposure and creative timelapse photography, the EOS 7D Mark II’s shutter can be locked up in bulb mode for a specified time, or programmed to shoot at intervals from one second up to 99hrs. The interval timer allows unlimited shots as well as programmable from one to 99 exposures.
BUILT-IN GPS AND DIGITAL COMPASS
The EOS 7D Mark II can geotag images and movie clips with your exact position wherever you are in the world. Record longitude, latitude, elevation and compass direction as well as coordinated universal time. In GPS Logger mode a record of your route is recorded as you move around, even when the camera is switched off. A digital compass is also built-in, allowing photographers to accurately retrace their movements in combination with GPS data.
INTELLIGENT VIEWFINDER II
Enjoy a natural view through the EOS 7D Mark II’s viewfinder, with approximately 100% viewfinder coverage and 1.0x magnification. A customisable transparent LCD screen overlays focus and shooting information as well as a Dual Axis Electronic Level for straight horizons.
ROBUST DESIGN, CUSTOMISABLE CONTROLS
The EOS 7D Mark II has been designed for use in the most demanding situations. A magnesium-alloy body has protection against dust and moisture. For ultimate flexibility the camera includes a range of custom controls on the body including a new dedicated AF mode lever to make sure favoured settings are only a single button-press away.
